1. What is the G4-107 CP1 Pump Plunger Lapping Tool?
The BEACON G4-107 CP1 Pump Plunger Lapping Tool is a precision service kit engineered for the in-shop lapping and re-conditioning of Bosch CP1 series high pressure injection pumps — covering both the plunger-and-barrel assembly and the control valve — when the pump is out of the engine and on the bench.
The kit is designed to put the plunger back into OEM surface finish and roundness specification without the workshop having to source a local lapping fixture. It ships in a foam-lined case with two grinding-paste syringes (coarse and fine), the dedicated plunger-holding fixture, the dedicated CP1 control valve grinding block, two star-knob locating / adjustment rods, the compression spring and steel balls used as spring-loaded locating contacts.
2. Why Does a Bosch CP1 Pump Need a Dedicated Lapping Tool?
The Bosch CP1 is a compact radial-piston high pressure pump used as the pressure source in many common rail diesel systems. It carries a 3-piston, 120-degree radial arrangement and produces the rail pressure demanded by the injectors mounted on the engine. Each piston runs in a precision plunger-and-barrel pair; the pump also carries a control valve that regulates the high-pressure chamber.
Plunger-and-barrel wear is the most common failure path on a CP1 pump that has been in service for a long time, or that has been exposed to contaminated fuel. Workshop symptoms include plunger scoring / wear, control valve seal failure, rail pressure drop, internal leakage, plunger sticking, tappet / roller wear, and plunger spring failure. The G4-107 is built to address the first four directly, by re-lapping the plunger and the control valve back into the OEM 1–3 µm plunger-to-barrel clearance band.
The kit ships as a foam-lined blow-molded case containing:
The Bosch CP1 high pressure pump family has been fitted to a wide range of heavy-duty on-highway and off-highway diesel platforms, including Detroit Diesel Series 60, DD15, DD13, DD11; Cummins M11, ISM 11.0L, ISX 15.0L, ISB 5.9L, ISL 9.0L, ISC 8.3L, ISF 2.8 / 3.8L plus QSB / QSC / QSL; Volvo D11 / D12 / D13 plus Mack MP7 / MP8 / MP10; Renault Premium / Magnum / Kerax / Midlum; Navistar DT466 / DT530 / DT570 plus Maxxforce 9 / 10 / 13; Iveco Cursor 8 / 10 / 13 plus Stralis / Trakker / EuroCargo; and Mack / Freightliner / Kenworth / Peterbilt through the shared platforms above.

Typical CP1 pump plunger reconditioning workflow using the G4-107:
For pump removal from the engine, pair the G4-107 with the BEACON G4-100; for injector-side service, see the G4-106, G5-52 C175, and G5-54 Cummins QSK kits.
All structural components in the G4-107 are machined from hardened alloy steel and anodized aluminum. The base plate, locating rod, and control valve grinding block are precision-ground for repeatable plunger concentricity. Net weight approximately 5 kg; case size 40 × 30 × 20 cm. Complete kit in foam-lined blow-molded case.
