Details

The BEACON FN-680 Rotary-Head Chassis Noise Detector is a workshop floor chassis road simulator designed to lift and rock a vehicle body in order to reproduce chassis squeaks, rattles and knocks without driving the car on the road. The machine is intended for use in automobile repair workshops, 4S dealer service bays, fleet maintenance depots and chassis / suspension diagnostic stations, where a technician needs to localise a hard to find chassis noise that only appears during driving on uneven road surfaces. By simulating road vibration under controlled speed, frequency and amplitude, the FN-680 lets the technician listen to the chassis response from underneath the car in a stationary workshop, so the source of a chassis squeak, suspension rattle, driveshaft click, or exhaust mount rub can be pinpointed much faster than by a road test.

FN-680 Core Application Workshops

FN-680 Rotary-Head Chassis Noise Detector is widely used in the following workshop and dealer environments:

  • Passenger car 4S dealer service workshops: chassis squeak and rattle diagnosis before and after warranty repair, on Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Buick, Chevrolet, Ford, Geely, BYD and other popular models.
  • Independent automotive repair workshops: locating hard to find suspension and subframe noises, control arm bush squeaks, stabilizer bar link clunks and exhaust heat shield rubs.
  • Truck and light commercial vehicle service workshops: cab mount squeaks, chassis frame creaks, and rear leaf spring rub diagnosis on light and medium duty trucks.
  • Fleet maintenance depots: periodic chassis noise inspection on taxi fleets, ride hailing fleets, rental car fleets and corporate car pools.
  • Chassis and suspension specialist workshops: pre-delivery inspection of repaired vehicles, subframe re-mount squeak verification, and aftermarket shock absorber and bushing replacement verification.

  • Bright display screen on the main machine for speed, frequency and amplitude control
  • Hot rolled steel tire fastening plates, strong and durable for repeated clamp operation
  • Universal casters on the main machine for easy positioning in the workshop
  • Pure copper motor for long life continuous workshop duty
  • Converter for accurate frequency and amplitude control
  • Height regulator with strong load bearing capacity and high stability

FN-680 Working Principle

FN-680 lifts the vehicle body by the tire clamps and rocks the body in a controlled vertical motion by the rotary head mechanism. The operator can adjust the speed (0 to 50 Hz), the motion frequency (0 to 200 cycles per minute) and the stroke (0 to 20 mm) to simulate different road surfaces, such as smooth highway, cobble stone, speed bump, rough asphalt or washboard road. While the chassis is rocking, the technician stands under the car and listens for squeaks, rattles and clicks from the suspension, subframe, exhaust, driveshaft, engine mounts and body mounts. Once the source is located, the technician can use a stethoscope or brake cleaner spray to confirm the exact noise source, then repair it.

FN-680 Operation Procedure

For a standard FN-680 chassis noise test on a passenger car or light truck, the workshop follows these steps:

  • Drive the vehicle onto the FN-680 platform, make sure all four wheels are on the tire fastening plates and the tire clamps are fully tightened.
  • Connect the stress relief device to absorb the body flex, and check that the support frames are in position.
  • Power on the FN-680 main machines, select manual mode or automatic mode, and set the initial frequency to a low value, around 5 to 10 Hz.
  • Slowly increase the speed and stroke, listen to the chassis response from underneath the car, and ask the driver to operate the steering and gear lever to reproduce cornering and acceleration noises.
  • When a noise is heard, lock the rotary head, locate the noise source with a stethoscope, mark the area with chalk, and proceed to repair.
  • After the repair, run the FN-680 cycle again to confirm that the noise is eliminated before returning the vehicle to the customer.

FN-680 Selection and Workshop Tips

For a workshop that is evaluating a chassis noise detector, we suggest paying attention to the following points:

  • Lifting weight: FN-680 4000 kg is enough for most passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, the 4800 kg load test rating gives an extra safety margin for SUV and pickup truck customers.
  • Motor configuration: 2.2 kW x 2 dual motor design gives smoother rocking motion and longer motor life than single motor machines.
  • Speed range: 0 to 50 Hz frequency and 0 to 200 cycles per minute frequency are the standard for reproducing different road profiles.
  • Voltage compatibility: 220 V and 380 V dual voltage optional, matching both domestic and export markets.
  • Workshop floor space: the standard FN-680 set occupies roughly 4 m x 3 m workshop floor space, including the two main machines, stress relief device and two support frames.

FN-680 Rotary Head Chassis Noise Detector 4000kg Workshop Lift Advantage

1. 4000kg Lifting Capacity with 4800kg Load Test Rating - FN-680 chassis noise detector lifts up to 4000kg vehicle body and is load tested to 4800kg, covering passenger car, SUV, pickup truck and light commercial vehicle workshop diagnosis needs.

2. Dual 2.2kW Motor Drive with Wide Frequency Range - Two 2.2kW pure copper motors drive the rotary head with motion frequency 0 to 200 cycles per minute and speed regulation 0 to 50 Hz, smoothly reproducing smooth highway, cobble stone, speed bump and washboard road profiles for chassis noise detection.

3. 0 to 20mm Working Stroke for Sensitive Noise Pickup - Adjustable 0 to 20mm working stroke lets the technician tune the chassis body rock amplitude to match the noise complaint, so even light weight suspension squeaks and subframe rubs can be reproduced in a stationary workshop.

4. Manual and Automatic Mode with Bright Display Screen - The operator can switch between manual mode for focused noise hunting and automatic mode for standard chassis noise inspection, with a bright display screen showing real time speed, frequency and stroke for accurate control.

5. 220V or 380V Dual Voltage with 50/60Hz Compatibility - FN-680 supports both 220V single phase and 380V three phase power input at 50Hz or 60Hz, matching both domestic and export market electrical standards without extra transformer.
